Scripture Reading—Psalm 55:1-8
“And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away, and be at rest. Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah. I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.” (Psalm 55:6-8)
You aren’t the only one who has tried to get away from it all. The Psalmist had the same feeling, but the duties of the throne wouldn’t permit him to escape to an island and forget it all. There is no vacation from duties and responsibilities for My bondslaves.
And yet there is a place of refuge. It is in My presence. I am your “Island in the Son.” When you flee to Me, you have My love and My comfort. I will put My arms around you and draw you very close to My heart. And as I hold you close to Me, I will stay awake, vibrating My love over your being, comforting your soul and strengthening your heart.
So fly away to Me in prayer. Lay your troubled soul down at My feet and be at rest. You can come as far away from it all as you desire by reading My Word and meditating upon it. Here, in My presence, is true peace and comfort. It is not the change of location that makes the difference for no matter where you go, you will take your troubles with you. The enemy of your soul can pursue you to the ends of the earth, but he cannot come into our sanctuary of prayer. He must stand outside the door while you are here in My presence. So flee to Me and escape from the windy storms and tempests.
