February 13: Trust Me to Turn Your Sorrow into Joy

“Because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient [good, better, advantageous, profitable] for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”  (John 16:6-7)

My disciples were very sad when I told them that I was going to leave them. This was because they couldn’t imagine life without Me. They had given up everything to follow Me because they believed I was going to overthrow the Romans and set up a new empire, even the Kingdom of God here on earth. They had misunderstood Me when I talked about My Kingdom on earth, because their hearts were closed to the truth. They saw things in an earthly way, a human way; they could not perceive nor understand the heavenly concept of my Eternal Kingdom that circumferenced all the world, all the universe and eternity. To them it was a “present time” kingdom that they could see, and that was all, and so they grieved.

Many people spend their lives in bitterness, anger, sorrow, and misery because they cannot accept their circumstances; they even get angry with God. They cannot believe that the day will come when they will understand the reason for all the grievous things they are going through. Their circumstances will turn out for the best if they will give them over to Me and trust Me to work them out for their good.

Sorrow does not need to last a lifetime. I told My disciples, “A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me …. Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy” (John 16:16, 20).

You may lose a loved one in death, and I understand that your heart will grieve and be sad because you will miss the fellowship, companionship, and the loving care that you received from that one who has been so precious and beloved to you. But it is only for a while. I promise you what I promised them, “And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice . . “ (John 16:22). Your loved one is in your future. It won’t be long now!

Paul trusted Me to turn everything for the best. After all, he had written “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). It is because he trusted Me that he could write from his prison cell in Rome, “But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel “ (Philippians 1:12).

When you dedicate your life and possessions to Me you can trust Me. YOU HAVEN’T GOT A THING TO WORRY ABOUT, NOR TO GRIEVE FOR! YOUR TOMORROWS WILL BE BEAUTIFUL!
