February 22: The Banqueting Table Is Prepared for Seekers of the Truth

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 9:1-6

“Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. “ (Proverbs 9:1-6)

“Wisdom hath builded her house…” This “house” is no ordinary building. The word in Hebrew is bayith (1004). It could mean a palace. I see it as a great national library that houses rows and rows of Books of Knowledge, Encyclopedias, Atlases, Biographies, Autobiographies, Books on Science, on Health, on Architecture, on Engineering — everything a great library would contain. And it is all there for our learning and understanding.

“…she hath hewn out her seven pillars:” Seven is the number of perfection. Great pillars have been hewn out according to the laws of perfection to hold up this great structure.

The entrance to this great House of Learning is through the Holy Spirit. It is only through the help of the Great Teacher that we can learn the truths of Heaven.

A great feast of truth has been prepared for all those who are sitting daily at His gates, and waiting at the posts of His Heavenly University! (Proverbs 8:34)

The fatted calf has been roasted, the wine mingled, the table set. All is prepared. The invitations have gone out to come to dine at the Table of Knowledge, while the Books of Knowledge are taught us by the Lord, Himself.

All are invited — even the simple, and those who need understanding in the ways of the Lord.

The Angel of Wisdom calls, “Come, eat my bread! Drink my wine which I have mingled.” It is an invitation to the Holy Communion Table, to be a partaker of the Broken Body and the Shed Blood of our Saviour. That is our true source of wisdom. It all starts at Calvary. And as we partake, life flows into our being.

Finally, the call comes to forsake the foolish and enter the Palace of Understanding and Love.
