January 25: There Is Happiness and Blessing in Wisdom and Understanding

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 3: 13

“Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.” (Proverbs 3:13)

Happiness, true happiness, is only obtained through godly living. My people were always looking for happiness. That is why I chose “Happiness” as the text of My first sermon — the one I preached on the mount at the shore of Galilee. The Hebrew word for happiness is esher. It also means “blessed.” That is why it is translated “blessed” in some Bibles (Matthew 5:1-12).

True happiness is a result of the blessings of the Lord. It is only obtained through My blessings upon you. I was always happy, even though I sorrowed for the sins of My people, because My source of happiness came from the blessings of My Father upon My soul. When the soul is blessed, the heart is happy. This kind of happiness is not determined by circumstances — it is from within. When I live in you I give you My joy.

The writer of Proverbs says, “happy” (blessed) is the man that finds wisdom chokmah (2451). This word in Hebrew means, not only the ability to be wise, but it also includes “skill, knowledge, gifts of ability, military strategy, diplomacy, intelligence, even the gift to do embroidery work and other handwork.” That is because, when you create something beautiful with your hands, you have accomplished a thing that will be a blessing and joy to yourself and others.

Artists, authors, composers, architects, builders, farmers, scientists, and even a good cook or baker can have great joy in his or her accomplishments, because the things they make give joy to others. Always be thankful for the gifts and talents which you have received from Me. Treasure them, appreciate them. The books you write, the sermons you preach, the songs you compose will bring great blessings to many, and change lives.

“Blessed is the man that getteth understanding.” The word, “understanding” in Hebrew is tabuwn (8394). It means “discretion, skill, understanding, insight and prudence.”

This is the gift that judges, diplomats, counsellors, pastors and mothers of the faith need. This gift will help you to weigh a matter and know that there are two sides to every story. It enables you to judge a case righteously and justly.

The world needs just and prudent leaders. Ask God to give you discernment and anointing so you can help many.
