January 30: The Power of Songs of Praise

“Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? … When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4a, 7)

When God created the world, He spoke it into existence through words that caused powerful vibrations that created atoms according to the image that was in His mind.

Your thoughts are the foundation of all that takes place in your life. They are the making of you; they create and cause everything that happens in your life.

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). That is why it is so important for you to have control of your thoughts. Paul wrote that we should be “casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Your thoughts will effect your speech, for “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matthew 12:34). So control your thoughts. You can do it!

Your words have commanding power; they can create light or darkness (the absence of light). Light and life are twins; where you find one, you find the other. Words of Life bring the Light of God into every situation, and annul the works of the evil one. Wonderful things happen when words are put to music. They have even greater power, for every tone impacts God’s creation in a different way.

Songs of Praise can win the battle at impossible odds. Praise puts the battle into God’s hands. (2 Chronicles 20:13-30). When the men, women and children of Judah began to praise the Lord, the angels came down and created ambushments against the three nations (Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir) that had come up against Judah, to drive them into the sea, and possess their land. They went mad, killing each other until there wasn’t a living man among them, while Israel stood afar off and watched the carnage in amazement. That is the power of songs of praise and victory. They make miracles happen.

When Jesus was born, the sky outside of the town of Bethlehem was lit up with a bright light, and the angel choirs of Heaven sang a heavenly song the humble shepherds heard. “Suddenly God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them [light]. They were terrified. The angel said [sound], ‘Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master’… At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises: Glory to God in the heavenly heights, Peace to all men and women on earth who please him” (Luke 2:9-11, 13-14 MSG).

Each Christmas season we join this heavenly choir in proclaiming the birth of Christ to the world. Never tire of singing Christmas Carols. It will bring peace and joy to you and others whose lives please God.
