“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (Jn. 14:23).
Dear Intercessors for Israel:
Greetings from Austin, Texas where Marylois and I have been busy this week, helping our daughter who has moved into a new home. We will be driving to Tulsa also see family and then returning to Engeltal next week.
United States disapproves of Israeli-Greece Pipeline
The Biden Administration informed Israel this week informed Israel, Greece and Cyprus that it would no longer support the proposed Eastern Mediterranean undersea pipeline which would transport Israel oil and gas to Europe. Former U.S. Secretary Mike Pompeo and former energy secretary Dan Brouillette had expressed U.S. support under the Trump Administration.
This denial in turn brought an offer by Turkish President Erdogan to allow the proposed pipeline to go through his nation: Erdrogan declared: “If Israeli gas would be brought to Europe, it could only be done through Turkey. Let us sit and talk about the conditions” (jpost.com).
As if to “sweeten” this offer up, Erdogan’s Foreign Minister called Israel’s Foreign Minister Yair Lapid to wish him well after Lapid contacted COVID. Turkey and Israel have not contacted one another in thirteen years, so this phone call may signal a diplomatic breakthrough between the two nations. Turkey in the past has supported Hamas, and has accused Israel of intentionally killing Palestinian children. Turkey also expelled Israel’s ambassador to that nation in 2018 over Israel’s response to rioting on its border with Gaza. Erdogan’s overtures to Israel may be related to Turkey’s declining economy and poor relations with the U.S. Israel though does not want to jeopardize it’s relations with Greece, so Erdogan’s new found “friendliness” may not bear any fruit. Turkey is still demanding Israel recognize East Jerusalem as the Palestinian Authority’s capital as well as P.A.’s sovereignty given to the Temple Mount.
Omicron Virus Spreading
The Omicron virus is rapidly spreading throughout Israel with 120,000 cases recorded in the last 48 hours. The IDF has also reported that some 10,000 Israeli soldiers infected. There are currently 453,000 active corona virus cases in Israel but the majority of these are classified as being mild. Green Pass restrictions are still in force, but losing their effectiveness, and may soon be canceled by the Health Ministry. Ben Gurion airport is open for foreign visitors, if they have received three doses of the COVID vaccine.
