Scripture Reading: Proverbs 22:17-18
“Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.” (Proverbs 22:17)
The ear must bend low in an attitude of humility and submission in order for it to be able to receive instruction — even from the wise. Then the heart must receive the instruction that was given and apply itself to the knowledge received.
People spend a quarter of their lives (some spend even longer) in learning the things that concern their life on earth. But few give more than moments to the study of that which is eternal.
It takes time to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God. You need to take time to bow down your ear. This is one source of knowledge you will not glean while on the run and without giving due attention.
Thus saith the Lord, “I will never compromise. I have set a pattern of learning. I have given to the world many books of knowledge, the greatest of which is the Holy Bible. In it are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. By learning and bowing down your ear to receive instruction, you will grow into the likeness of, and become knowledgeable and wise like your Teacher.
“I have given you the Holy Spirit. He shall teach you all things and reveal the truths that have been hidden since the foundation of the world. He will take the things that are Mine and show them to you. You will learn from Him the secrets of eternal life.
“Not all you learn will you be able to pass on to others. Many will not be able to bow down their ear to receive instruction for it requires unlearning preconceived ideas. It is not easy, but to those who are willing to learn, great and precious lessons shall be taught them in this day and generation.”
