June 8: The Eyes Are the Windows of the Soul

Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:22-23

“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:22-23)

The eyes are the windows of the soul. They not only introduce to the soul the good and the evil that is in the world, and convey it to the heart and soul; they also express the good and the evil that lies in the heart and soul of each individual, and reveal it to the world.

Be careful to look into the eyes of those with whom you have important dealings. Do not be charmed by their smiles nor seduced by their words. Watch the eyes when speaking to the other person; you will often be shocked by the things that are revealed to you.

Ask the Holy Spirit to put a guard over your eyes and your heart. Because spirits of lust can be transferred through the eyes, you will need to be careful about whose eyes you look into.

In some cultures, if a woman looks into the eyes of man, it is an open invitation to immoral acts. Do not be deceived, nor seduced, by beautiful eyes. Always wear a “veil” of holiness over your eyes when dealing with members of the opposite sex, and always forbid any flirtatious glance to escape or be expressed from your eyes.

Never allow your eyes to covet riches nor that which should never be yours.

The things you look at feed your soul. The beauty of the Father’s creation, the flowers, birds, the sky, the sea, and beautiful scenery all bring glory to the soul.

When your eyes desire to gaze upon and read good things which are of spiritual value, you shall fill your body with light. This brings health and blessing to the soul.

Let your eyes be pure, without guile, and harmless.

Look into the eyes of a young child, and you will see purity of the soul.

Look into the eyes of an older child, who has already begun to sin, and you will not see that innocence.

Do not be without prudence. Never allow your soul to be duped. Always let the light which is in you enable you to discern that which is right and wrong in others.

There is no darkness that is worse than the darkness that is caused by the absence of the Light of God. The spiritual eyes that are not pure and clear are like filthy windows which hinder the light from entering the inner chambers, thus causing darkness to the soul.

Many are blinded by the glamour and the riches and the lusts of the flesh which this world has to offer. Eve was enticed to commit sin through her eyes. Take warning from her!

If your eyes read My Word, and your soul meditates on it, you shall fill your body with light and life.

Eve meditated on the words of Satan; her eyes beheld the “fruit” he was tempting her to eat, and darkness entered her soul, bringing death.

Be careful what your eyes behold, and your body shall be full of light.

Also, be careful what your children behold with their eyes, for you can introduce either light or darkness into their bodies and souls through the things which you permit them to look at.
