Scripture Reading — Amos 4:1-13
“Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.” (Amos 4: 12)
To meet Me is not always a good thing. It can be the end of a person’s existence. It can be death, destruction, torment, judgment, and hell.
Many are afraid of meeting Me, because they do not love Me. If you love Me, then it will be only glory. It will be the climax of all joys, the ending of all sorrows, the fulfillment of all dreams.
But this is only for those who love Me. I was angry with sinful Israel. They had forsaken Me for the “kine of Bashan,” the golden calves and the Baal of Jezebel, a deceitful form of worship and idolatry which brought suffering on the poor and sinfulness upon the nation.
They still held a form of tithing to their idolatrous system, for even the priests of Baal taught the people to tithe so they could eat. Their sacrifice of thanksgiving was mingled with the leaven of corruption and they made great publication of those who gave above their tithes for they loved the praises of men. (vs. 4,5)
I sent famine (vs. 6), withheld rain (vs. 7), sent mildew and palmerworm on their fields and gardens (vs 9), pestilence like the plagues of Egypt, war that slayed their young men and much death (vs. 10), but still they did not repent.
Therefore I told them they should now get ready for the worst. That was to meet Me face to face as the mighty God above all gods, the judge of the whole earth. The one who formed the mountains, who created the wind, who can read the thoughts of a man, who can turn the morning into darkness, who walks on the Alps, the Andes and the Himalayas.
I am no golden calf that has been formed by the hands of sinful men. Neither am I a spirit demon, nor a beast of the field, nor a being from outer space. I am the Lord God Almighty who created all things, even the things which are often mistakenly worshipped by man in his ignorance and foolishness.
I am the “unknown” God. The God that made the world and all things therein, the Lord of heaven and earth. I dwell not in temples made with hands. The times of ignorance, I, your God, winked at, but now I command men everywhere to repent and get ready to meet Me, for they have an appointment with death and judgment and multitudes are not ready. Read Acts 17:23-31.
