Scripture Reading: Genesis 24:5-6

“And the servant said unto him (Abraham) ‘Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land; must I needs bring thy son back unto the land from whence thou camest?’ And Abraham said unto him, ‘Beware thou that thou bring not my son back thither. ‘” (Genesis 24:5-6)

Eliezar was willing to do whatever Abraham wanted him to do, but he insisted on clear instructions.

It is always good to make sure that you know what is expected of you before you start carrying out the “Boss’s” orders.

Many of God’s servants are busy scurrying here and there trying to do what God’s will is, without stopping long enough at His throne to get explicit instructions. We waste so much time doing carefully what doesn’t need to be done at all!

Eliezar wanted to know what he should do peradventure he should find a suitable wife for Isaac but she would not be willing to leave her home and follow him to Canaan. Was he to take Isaac back to Haran?

Abraham warned him, “Beware that thou bring not my son back thither.” Under no condition was Isaac to return to Haran, lest, under the influence of his wife and her family, he would abandon the Land of Promise.

It is so easy to lose the vision when you move away from it. Far too many have lost yesterday’s vision because of today’s trials and circumstances, and as a result, their tomorrows are empty and unfulfilled.

The book of Habakkuk tells us that though the vision should tarry we should wait for it because it cannot be put off indefinitely (Habakkuk 2:3).

God wants us to hold on to the vision even though it takes a long time for it to be fulfilled.

If the vision is of God, you will see it fulfilled.

As an example, I am writing this devotion in the land of Bhutan. For over twenty-five years I have prayed for God to open the door for me to come here to this Himalayan Kingdom. But always the door was shut. The nation did not want foreigners, not even tourists! It was almost impossible to get a visa, (and still is), and if I had managed to come, I probably would not have found a single Christian here.

But suddenly, the door opened miraculously, and I will have been in Bhutan for twelve days by the time I leave. The vision has been fulfilled. God has done a wonderful thing. I have ministered almost daily. It was worth the twenty-five year wait because it was fulfilled in the Lord’s timing. Moreover, we now have many End-Time Handmaidens and Servants serving the Lord here.
