Scripture Reading: Proverbs 18:4; 20:5; 18:20
“The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.” (Proverbs 18:4)
Words can bring life. Words are very powerful because they are the expression of the soul.
Even as the water in the well has its source down at the bottom, far below the water line, so the words a man speaks have their source, down deep in the heart of man.
Never take other people’s words lightly. There is usually more than surface value. Even the jokes and jests, and so-called teasing, are more than they appear to be. Listen to your heart for the meaning.
The Psalmist wrote, “…all my springs are in thee” (Psalms 87:7).
If the Holy Spirit dwells in you He is the source of your supply of “Living Water.” And it will be living water that will fill your well, until it overflows. And as it does, it will fill the brooks with living, bubbling, rippling water that will flow out from your innermost being. And before you realize it, without even trying, your life will become the source of many rivers of blessing. At first it will only be a single, little brook, but later, as the rains fall and add to the stream, it will become a river, even many rivers, flowing from your life which is seated in the High Places in God. Your river will flow down through the valleys until many lives in many climes are flooded, and the nations will be blessed and become fertile because of your well.
“Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.” (Proverbs 20:5)
Without water, no man can live. Without counsel, no man can live spiritually. When wise counsel ceases a nation dies.
That is the trouble with the nations that have taken the Bible, God’s Book of Counsel, away from the children in our schools. We are raising a generation without watering their souls. The result is devastation.
The man of understanding will listen to the counsel of wisdom; and the only counsel of truth is that which is found in God through His Son, Jesus Christ. He said, “I am the truth.” He is the Fountain of Living Water.
“A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.” (Proverbs 18:20)
The words that we speak, while under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, bring life and joy, not only to others, but also to ourselves. There is a sense of great satisfaction when we have spoken the Word of God and ministered to others.
And as we serve the Lord, He will supply all of our needs. The Levites received their livelihood through their service to God.
Never be afraid to trust God and step out into full-time ministry because the words you speak in the Lord’s name will return to bless you in a spiritual and a tangible, financial way. Did the Lord not say, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33)?
And Paul also wrote, “The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits” (2 Timothy 2:6).
Paul also said, “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the Word and doctrine. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, the labourer is worthy of his reward” (1 Timothy 5:17-18).
