“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
Paul was a “contestant” in the greatest “Olympics” of all time.
And you are too! Never forget it! When you see someone who is a winner, just determine in your heart that you are not going to give up. Keep faith in Me, and in yourself. I built you with My DNA in you. You are made in My image and in My likeness. How can you possibly fail?
However, if you get discouraged because of your yesterday’s failures, and because someone has browbeaten you and spoken discouraging, negative criticism about you, and you have taken it into your heart, you can easily give up on yourself. But it is only because you have taken your eyes off of Me. You have begun to look at the difficulties, and they have become greater in your eyes than I.
It was when Peter saw the high waves, which the boisterous winds created, that he became fearful and began to sink. But when he cried out to me, “Lord, save Me!” I immediately reached out My hand to him and caught him, and said to him, “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt” (Matthew 14:30-31).
It matters not how many times you fall, as long as you get up and keep on running. You must finish the course. The reward in these “Olympics” is not to the one who gets there first, but to the one who finishes the race — to the one who has not lost their faith in Me, no matter how great the onslaught has been, how hard you have been punched out. Get up, pick up your cross, and keep on climbing Golgotha’s hill until you can say with Me, “It is finished!”
Your reward is not a medal of gold, silver, or bronze, but a crown of golden glory that will never fade away throughout eternity.
You were created and born to be a winner. Take courage today. Forget that you almost “sank beneath the waves” yesterday. Today is a new day, with a new beginning.
