Scripture Reading — I Corinthians 8:1-13
“Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth. And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.” (I Corinthians 8: 1,2)
Everything that is puffed up will one day be deflated. The greatest knowledge and wisdom of yesterday seems as kindergarten knowledge today. The great inventions and theories of today will seem as child’s knowledge when you come into the abode of the all-knowing realm of the redeemed saints and angels.
For a while the greatest of earth knowledge seems so important, so essential, but the highest degrees of learning that the schools of earth can give you all amount to one grain of knowledge when compared to My infinite wisdom and knowledge. I look down on earth as humans are struggling in their halls of learning for a little more of earth’s, man-conceived knowledge and limited discoveries and I pity them all. They strive so hard to attain a goal which tomorrow will be discarded as an old shoe.
The thing to strive for, which is eternal, is love. It does not just enter the brain, it enters the soul and beautifies it. That is what “edification” means, “to beautify.”
Do not strive after the knowledge of the world, but rather after the beauty and durability of love. It is greater to be beautiful than to be puffed up.
